Solomon Islands: Santa Isabel Black-faced Pitta Tour 2027
Destination: Santa Isabel & Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands Duration: 7 Nights, 8 Days Best Time: May–October Description:
Explore the forests of Santa Isabel in search of the elusive Black-faced Pitta, combined with birdwatching around Honiara on Guadalcanal. The programme begins with a visit to Mount Austin before flying to Fera and travelling by boat to Buala.
From Buala, walk inland to Tirotonga for three nights, allowing two full days to explore the surrounding forest. Local guides assist our search for the Black-faced Pitta and other island specialities, with opportunities for photography when birds and conditions allow. The remote setting offers an insight into village life and the largely undeveloped interior of Santa Isabel.
Return to Buala before taking the morning flight from Fera to Honiara on the final day. The tour starts and ends in Honiara, with international travel planned from Brisbane on 6 September and back to Brisbane on 13 September 2027.
